The path of egress – the path to safety – frequently includes damp locations (interior locations and partially protected exterior locations subject to moderate moisture). A standard emergency ballast with an indoor dry rating is unsuitable for use in a damp environment. Side-Lite damp location (DL) emergency ballasts, however, have been specifically designed and manufactured to provide code-required emergency lighting in damp locations.

APPLICATION
Side-Lite DL emergency ballasts convert interior or partially protected exterior fluorescent fixtures that are subject to moderate amounts of moisture into emergency lighting units.

Damp location emergency ballasts work with most electronic, standard, energy-saving and dimming AC ballasts and are compatible with a variety of lamps (e.g., U-shaped, HO, VHO, circline and energy-saving tubular fluorescent lamps; 2- and 4-pin long compact and compact lamps). Please see individual dry location model specification sheets (or contact Side-Lite at 888-900-7544) for specific lamp and ballast information and other product details.

Damp location applications include canopied or otherwise partially protected areas, such as covered walkways, porches and exterior stairways; cold storage facilities; hangars; parking garages; and some basements or underground facilities.

OPERATION
Side-Lite DL emergency ballasts respond to loss of normal AC power by immediately and automatically switching from the charging mode to the emergency mode. In emergency mode, the DL emergency ballasts run one or two lamps, depending on the DL model, for a minimum of 90 minutes. Once normal power is reestablished, they return to the charging mode and are fully recharged in 24 hours.

INSTALLATION
Side-Lite DL emergency ballasts may be installed inside, on top of or remote from the fluorescent fixture, depending on the DL model and the fixture. (Remote mounting is limited to the lesser of the following: up to half of the distance the fixture manufacturer suggests remoting the AC ballast from the fixture or up to 50 feet). DL emergency ballasts do not interfere with routine fixture operation and are suitable for both switched and unswitched fixture types. DL emergency ballasts should not be used in applications where the ambient temperature drops below 0°C or exceeds 50°C (32°F to +121°F). Please refer to the specific instructions provided with each model for the information necessary to properly and safely install these emergency ballasts.

BATTERY
A high-temperature nickel-cadmium battery powers Side-Lite DL emergency ballasts during emergency operation. Nickel-cadmium batteries have a 7- to 10-year life expectancy and require no maintenance, making them ideal for emergency ballast applications.

UL and CODE COMPLIANCE
Side-Lite damp location emergency ballasts have been tested by Underwriters Laboratories (UL 924) and are UL Listed for field or factory installation. They meet or exceed the 90-minute emergency illumination run time required by the Life Safety Code (NFPA-101), the National Electrical Code (NFPA-70) and UL 924.

WARRANTY
Side-Lite warranty covers only properly installed damp location emergency ballasts used under normal conditions from the date of purchase. For the full warranty period, Side-Lite will, at its option, repair or replace without charge a defective emergency ballast, provided it is returned to the factory transportation prepaid, and our inspection determines it to be defective under terms of the warranty. Repair or replacement, as stated above, shall consititute the purchaser's exclusinve warranty, which does not extend to transportation, installation, labor or any other charges; nor does it apply to any equipment of another manufacturer used in conjunction with the emergency ballast.
