PSM
POWER SWITCHING MODULE
FOR GENERATOR-SUPPLIED OR CENTRAL INVERTER-SUPPLIED SYSTEMS
APPLICATION
The Side-Lite Power Switching Module (PSM) works with a generator or central inverter system and a fluorescent fixture to provide emergency lighting regardless of fixture wall switch position (on/off). The PSM is used to bypass the fixture wall switch, permitting the generator or central inverter system to activate designated switchable fixtures. One PSM is installed per fixture. The device may be used with a multi-ballast arrangement if the ballast current requirements do not exceed the maximum PSM load rating of 3 amps. The PSM consists of relay switching circuitry and fusing in one compact galvanized steel case and is designed for use in indoor and damp locations.
OPERATION
When normal power fails, the PSM immediately and automatically switches the AC input power connection to an unswitched generator-supplied or central inverter system-supplied lighting circuit, bringing on designated switchable lighting fixtures. Routine maintenance is not required, however, all life safety unit equipment should be checked periodically. Please note that a test switch is not provided with the PSM. The PSM is considered auxiliary lighting equipment under UL 924, and neither UL nor the NEC requires the use of a test switch with this type of equipment
INSTALLATION
As with other Side-Lite unit equipment, the PSM does not affect normal fixture operation. It comes fully assembled and ready to install inside the fixture ballast channel. The PSM may be installed on top of the fixture by using the wire bundle covers, S-TWBC (sold separately). The PSM may be remotely located up to 50 feet, but this type of installation requires an enclosure and/or other hardware not included with the PSM. Contact your Side-Lite representative or the factory for details. In addition to available wiring, the PSM requires an unswitched, direct connection to a generator-supplied or central inverter system-supplied emergency panel and an unswitched source on the same branch circuit as the switched supply.
SPECIFICATION
The Side-Lite Power Switching Module (PSM) used in conjunction with a standard fluorescent fixture and an auxiliary generator or central inverter system shall provide emergency lighting. Should normal power fail, the module shall switch the AC input power connection to an unswitched generator-supplied or central inverter system-supplied lighting circuit, thereby allowing the generator or central inverter system to bring on designated switchable fixtures regardless of fixture wall switch position (on/off). The PSM shall consist of fusing and relay switching circuitry contained in one 8” x 1.18” x 1.18” galvanized steel case. The module shall have all inputs fused to 3 amps maximum; shall operate at 120 or 277 VAC; and shall draw 280 mA and 1.6 Watts during normal operation. The PSM shall be UL Listed for installation inside, on top of or remote from the fixture and shall comply with the current NEC. The module shall be warranted for five (5) full years from the date of purchase and shall be assembled in the USA.
WARRANTY
The PSM is warranted for five (5) full years from the date of purchase. The Side-Lite warranty covers only properly installed Power Switching Modules used under normal conditions from the date of purchase. For the full warranty period, Side-Lite will, at its option, repair or replace without charge a defective unit, provided it is returned to the factory transportation prepaid and our inspection determines it to be defective under terms of the warranty. Repair or replacement, as stated above, shall constitute the purchaser’s exclusive warranty, which does not extend to transportation, installation, labor or any other charges; nor does it apply to any equipment of another manufacturer used in conjunction with the Side-Lite unit.
