The S26C is for use with one or two twin-tube, double-twin-tube (quad), or triple-twin-tube compact fluorescent lamps shown in the Lamp Rating Chart in most downlight, wall sconce and recessed wall fixture applications. It installs easily with a variety of fixture types; however, some fixtures may not accommodate emergency equipment, especially surface-mounted fixtures. In these situations, the S26C may be remote-installed up to half the distance the AC ballast manufacturer recommends remoting the AC ballast from the lamp, or up to 50 feet, whichever is less. If used with an emergency-only fixture, no AC ballast is necessary.

OPERATION
When AC power fails, the emergency ballast automatically starts and operates the lamp at full power the first few seconds to eliminate the need for a ground plane, then reduces to a lower lumen output to conserve battery power. The lamp operates in the emergency mode for a minimum of 90 minutes. When AC power is restored, the emergency ballast automatically returns to the charging mode.

INSTALLATION
This equipment does not affect normal fixture operation and may be used with either a switched or unswitched fixture. If a switched fixture is used, an unswitched lead must be connected to the emergency ballast. If used in an emergency-only fixture, no AC ballast is necessary. Installation is not recommended in fixtures where the ambient temperature may fall below 0°C for extended periods. It is also not suitable for installation in heated air outlet fixtures, and wet, damp, or hazardous location fixtures. For simple visual inspection of the charging indicator light and easy operational testing, the test/monitor plate can be installed near the fixture wall switch. Or, it can be installed in the ceiling near the fixture to ensure an unobtrusive installation. S26C has two wire harness with 2' of flexible conduit, one at each end of the ballast.

UL and CODE COMPLIANCE
This emergency ballast has been tested and approved by Underwriters Laboratories in accordance with the standards set forth in UL924 - "Emergency Lighting and Power Equipment," and is UL LISTED. Emergency illumination exceeds the National Electrical Code (NEC), Life Safety Code (NFPA-LSC) and UL 90-minute requirements.

BATTERY
The S26C contains a high-temperature nickel cadmium battery. These batteries are maintenance-free, can be safely installed inside the ballast channel, and have a life expectancy of 7 to 10 years.

EMERGENCY ILLUMINATION
This equipment produces 450 - 950 lumens initial emergency illumination, depending on wattage of lamp used, for a minimum of 90 minutes.

Emergency lighting shall be provided by using a twin-tube, double-twin-tube (quad), or triple-twin-tube compact fluorescent fixture equipped with a SIDE-LITE S26C emergency ballast. The S26C shall consist of a special high-temperature, maintenance-free nickel cadmium battery, charger and electronic circuitry contained in one compact 12" x 2 3/8" x 1 1/2" metal case and two wire harnesses with 2' lengths of flexible conduit on each end. A test/monitor plate with test switch and solid-state charging indicator light shall be provided to monitor the charger and battery. The emergency ballast shall be capable of operating one or two lamps in emergency mode for a minimum of 90 minutes by operating the lamps at full power the first few seconds to eliminate the need for a ground plane, then reducing to a lower lumen output to conserve battery power. Initial emergency light output shall be 950 lumens for 26W lamps, 650 lumens for 18W lamps, 500 lumens for 13W lamps, and 450 lumens for 10W lamps. The S26C shall have 3.5 Watts of input power, a 19.2 Watt-hour battery capacity and exceed emergency standards set forth by the current NEC. The emergency ballast shall be UL LISTED for installation either inside or outside of the fixture, warranted for a full two years from date of purchase, and made in the U.S.A.

WARRANTY
Model S26C is warranted for two (2) full years from date of purchase. This warranty covers only properly installed SIDE-LITE emergency ballasts used under normal conditions. For the warranty period SIDE-LITE will, at its option, repair or replace without charge a defective emergency ballast, provided it is returned transportation prepaid, and our inspection determines it to be defective under terms of the warranty. Repair or replacement, as stated above, shall constitute the purchaser's exclusive warranty, which does not extend to transportation, installation, labor or any other charges; nor does it apply to any equipment of another manufacturer used in conjunction with the emergency ballast.
